HELP! OH WAIT, NEVERMIND…

Jun 21, 2025

Let me tell you something I wish wasn’t still true for me… Even now—after a decade in business, after coaching hundreds of women, after building companies and teams and surviving more than a few hard seasons— I still struggle to ask for help. I suck at accepting it too. Like most high-achieving women, I would rather drown in overwhelm than ask for a damn life raft. And I know I’m not the only one.

The question is Why?

Because it makes you feel needed. Because somewhere along the way, you tied your value to how much you do instead of who you are. Because being busy feels productive. Because saying yes feels like proof that you’re enough. And that? That’s why you’re overwhelmed.

Most of the pressure you feel isn’t coming at you—it’s coming from you. You weren’t forced to take on that extra project or rsvp to that event. But you did. Overwhelm doesn’t just happen. We build it. One “yes” at a time.

And then, even when others recognize it and help is offered… We wave it off.
“I’ve got it!”
“I’m good, but thank you!”
“Oh no it’s fine! I can make it work.”

All while slowly crumbling under the pressure we freaking created. I’ll pass on help that’s offered because I don’t want to feel like a burden, like someone who doesn’t do what she says she’s going to do, or worse—like I somehow deserve this as ‘punishment’ for my ‘not enoughness.’

Both asking and receiving require a lot of vulnerability because it’s uncomfortable as hell when you’re used to being the one who has it handled. There’s this deeply ingrained resistance—like accepting help means we’re incapable, lazy, or somehow means we’ll owe someone something later on top of our already never-ending to-do list.

And that’s the truth bomb we don’t say out loud: we don’t ask for or accept help because we’re afraid of what it says about us. That maybe we’re not as put together as we look. That maybe we don’t deserve the success we’ve built, or that it’s not even success at all. That maybe, just maybe, we are too much and not enough, all at the same time.

This is one of the most common pain points I hear from the women I coach—the high-achievers, the caretakers, the entrepreneurs, the working moms. The ones who have always been the strong ones. The go-to girls. The dependable, capable, do-it-all queens.

If this is hitting a little too close to home, I’ll leave you with a few questions I’ve been sitting with myself:

  • Where in your life or business are you pretending to be “fine,” but secretly craving support?
  • What story are you telling yourself about what it means to ask for or accept help? And who gave you that story?
  • What would become possible if you gave yourself permission to receive support—without guilt or explanation?
  • Why do you feel more comfortable giving than receiving? What does that say about your relationship to worthiness?
  • Where are you saying yes just to feel valid and important—and what will it cost you if you keep doing that?

So here’s your reminder, and mine too: It stops when you make it stop. You don’t have to earn rest. You’re allowed to take the cape off. You don’t have to prove your worth by carrying it all. Let someone help you. Let them love you. Let them support you. Not because you can’t do it all—but because you were never meant to do it all alone. What if you chose to believe that accepting help isn’t a sign of weakness—but a signal to the universe that you’re ready for more? What if letting someone else carry the weight is actually the most strategic move you could make as a leader? Let this be the season where you finally receive what you so generously give.
