HANDLE HARD BETTER – PART TWO: THE COST OF GROWTH

Jul 24, 2025

Social media and marketing tactics have convinced us that everything has a hack, a quick fix, or that there must be an easier way.

But you know what?

Life is hard. Period.

Stop trying to avoid it. And recognize that in most situations, you’re really just choosing between hard things– trying to figure out which problem you’d rather solve.

Building a business is hard. And so is having a shitty boss, limited income, and no freedom with your time.

Building wealth is hard. And so is being broke.

Co-parenting with your ex is hard. And so is carrying around a fuck ton of resentment and spending countless dollars in court.

So many of us waste energy trying to eliminate hassles that are actually the unavoidable cost of growth.

Success isn’t just shiny milestones and well-lit wins you can post on LinkedIn.
It’s rejection.
It’s isolation.
It’s making the right call, even when it costs you relationships, sleep, or reputation.

-> That conversation you don’t want to have?
-> That teammate who’s no longer a fit?
-> That decision you keep stalling because you’re afraid someone might not “get it”?

That’s not dysfunction. That’s what leadership (of yourself and others) actually feels like.

And if you’re reading this and thinking:
“C’mon. It shouldn’t be this hard…”
Here’s your reminder: The hard is not a detour. It is the path.

How you interpret hard matters more than how it shows up.

So let’s talk about mindset…

You can live in Victim Mode—where life is happening to you, and your power is always in someone else’s hands.

Or you can shift into Accountable Mode—where life is happening through you, and even in the pain, you still remember you have a choice.

You don’t get to control the plot twists.
But you do get to decide what they mean.

You know what separates the women who rise from the ones who stall?

They don’t let the hard define them — they let it refine them.

So let’s reframe:

  • What seems harder for me than it does for others?
  • What seems easier for me than it is for others?
  • What skill is being born through this hard season?

Where am I pretending something is “fine” when it’s actually stealing my peace?
